Seattle Aquarium

While my sisters had been to a few of the places we went on a separate trip, the Seattle Aquarium was the one place we had been together, and we initially weren't planning on going back.

We had seen it and it hadn't been that impressive.

We only ended up going because of a deal we had. (I will write more about that next time.)

We are so glad that worked out.

There have been so many improvements!

To be fair, our previous visit was 2004; they'd had plenty of time to update.

That was largely the result of new construction.

When you first go in, things are pretty typical. There are tide pools and jellyfish and an octopus that hides.

As you go outside, there are more birds and mammals, and they are interesting to watch.

I got to see a puffin swimming, which involved the wings more than I would have thought.

I didn't get a good picture of it, but that is not too surprising.

I watched river otters swimming at two separate places and all I got was blurs. The sea otters went a little better.

Then you get to the Ocean Pavillion with its reef and film footage added to the viewpoints from above and below.

It's kind of breathtaking.

There was also a behind the scenes look at some of the breeding practices.

There is just a lot to see.

COVID: There were a lot of people around. Even in some of the semi-outdoor places I stayed masked.

Accessibility: There are elevators and ramps, even if there are some impressive staircases. I saw many people using mobility devices and it seemed fine.

There are ways to get around.

It took a few years, but I now really recommend the Seattle Aquarium.
