Seattle Roadside Attractions: Pac-Man Park and Fremont Troll

These were both brief stops on our way to other places, but we were glad that we got to see them.

The Fremont Troll is definitely better known, having cameos in movies, television, and video games. (Actually, maybe just one of each, but still.) Pac-Man Park is much less well-known. Actually, "park" might be an overstatement.

Once there, it looked like there was some roadway where allowing people to drive on it would probably cause accidents; maybe something was demolished. They closed it off and added a game layout, some ghosts, and Pac-Man himself.

I can't help but wish there was some fruit floating around too, but it's still a fun idea.

Our driver had no idea Pac-Man Park existed.

People are much more familiar with the troll.

They have fun with it, too. At the end of the street, someone had set up some goats that I can only assume are brothers, and probably pretty gruff.

The process of adding this artwork is a bit better documented, and he even gets celebrated with Trolloween:

I do feel a little disappointed to find that part of his installation was to chase away unhoused people sleeping there. I mean, it seems like actions like that should include some efforts to obtain shelter, too.

It was also to keep people from dumping litter there, though, and art can be good for things like that.

People should be better in general; maybe art can help.

COVID: Both attractions are in open air and distancing is easy.

Accessibility: The stairs to get up behind the troll would not be accessible for everyone, but drive-up access is available for both.
