Forest Grove, Oregon: Storybook Lane

After a six year absence, Storybook Lane in Forest Grove has returned.

Primarily consisting of painted wood, there was an impressive amount of animatronics.

That included stamping hooves for "all the king's horses" and a line of dancing snowmen.

It started with the churning wheels on Cruella DeVille's car, introducing an unexpected 101 Dalmatians theme.

That included Cruella's henchmen, Horace and Jasper Badun, and a challenge to find all 101 of the dogs.

From that point on, many of the displays had a few extra puppies, like these two sleeping by a pile of presents.

Speaking of the presents, Santa's Workshop was one of my favorite displays.

There was an extra nostalgia burst with some of the classic toys found on the shelves.

I was also impressed with the chapel scene, with a pipe organ and choir.

Details like the windows bring home what an incredible amount of work and dedication goes into these types of attractions.

We certainly understand why it was only done every two years!

We found out about it a bit late, right before the six year hiatus started. It was nice to finally get the chance.

It does feel like a long way in the dark to get there. We were grateful for the signs and the volunteers directing parking.

I also appreciated the attention to lesser-known characters, like the Alice in Wonderland display including the Walrus and the Carpenter.

It was a short walk through a lot of cuteness and we enjoyed it.

COVID: Everything is outside, but there were a lot of people, and there is some concentration of the crowd in the chapel, and in the initial entrance, which is kind of an arched castle passage.

We were there toward the end of the run and it was on a weekend night, so there may be less crowded times. It may also be less packed if it gets into the normal two year rotation.

There's no reason you can't wear a mask outside.

Accessibility: This is mostly flat and navigable, with two potential issues. While you could roll into the chapel, there is a step down to exit it. It might be best to back out and then go around if the line will permit.

The other potential issue is that the line curved around and was pretty close. One would hope other people in line would be accommodating, but also, the line may not always be like that. Volunteers were helpful, and it might be best to ask if there are any concerns.
