Sacramento: Rick's Dessert Diner

After our previous adventures in Sacramento, we were told about something we missed and had to do.

Please note, we had a reason to go back to Sacramento anyway, and did not go merely because there was a place full of cake.

It sure was a lot of cake though.

Looking over the menu I found it hard to understand how they could keep so many different types on hand. There is still a lot I don't know about the logistics, but they had a lot of cold cases.

It is not only cake (and pies and brownies and cookies); they also make fresh bread and you can get sandwiches.

You can also get ice cream and drinks.

It would just be weird to go and not get cake.

That "Best Yellow Cake" was a big part of our wanting to go. That looks like what Pollyanna got at the bazaar.

The caveat that I will give is that it is very rich. Many of the cakes are made with buttermilk and extra eggs, and there may be real cream as an ingredient. Pay attention to the description, not just the looks.

They do look pretty great though.

I think in our group the highest praise was given to the carrot cake, which was much better than what you usually get. Tastes vary though, so pay attention to what works best for you.

Unless they develop a tasting menu, with a variety of small bites. If that happens, go for that!

COVID: There are some outdoor tables, and a lot of the orders are to go. You can also order for delivery.

Accessibility: The entrance is navigable. There were a lot of people in line inside where it looped around, and that might be harder to make work with a mobility device. Also, parking was not great in the area. These things are not insurmountable, but be aware.
