Hoffman Farms Fall Activities

On a bright sunny day, we went to check out Hoffman Farms.

The farm has many things going on, at many different times of year. We had specifically looked at fall activities. We were there for the corn maze, as well as planning on taking a trip on the Scholls Valley Railroad.

The train ride and the maze are both reasonably priced at $5 and $6 respectively. Obviously you can spend money on food and farm products, but it is impressive how much there is to do free.

There was music playing, there were some fun looking play areas...

... and there were many, many photo opportunities.

We were able to get a look at some of that from the train, though the farm is vast, and the train ride does not show all of it.

The train was surprisingly comfortable, with better leg room than the train at Oaks Park.

There is a natural route to take where you start out at the corn maze, get through it, and are directed from the exit to the farm store, at which point you are quite near the train ride.

However, the ticket booth by the train ride was cash only, and I suspect the one for the corn maze was as well. Starting at the farm store allows you to purchase tickets for both together, and to use your card.

You can snap a picture of the maze pattern at the store or at the maze entrance, though there may be questions about how helpful it is.

We were glad that the ground was dry beneath us, though it was a warm day with a bright sun.

That sun makes it hard to see those tall blue flags at the maze entrance. However, since they are nice and tall, if at some point you end up giving up on going through the maze (strictly hypothetically), it can give you a guide back out.

That would have you rather near to the parking area. Parking is on the grass and is plentiful. The train is wheelchair friendly. Paths are mostly level, but since it is generally grass or dirt, not completely smooth.

There were many varieties of pumpkins, available in the patch or at various displays around the store. Wagons are available for carting them, but they have a bakery too, other produce, and we saw many people carrying bags of popcorn.

Happy harvest!
